Hairdressing Professionals work in a range of job roles within the Hairdressing & Barbering industry including stylist, colour technician etc
A Hairdressing Professional will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks and colour / lighten hair competently in the industry. They will also be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrating the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with the role.
This apprenticeship is formed of two main assessments methods and a final end assessment point.
The vocational qualification studied as part of this apprenticeship is Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals. Whilst studying for this qualification, the units you may study include:
- Consultation
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
- Perming hair
- Hair relaxing treatments and techniques
- Hair extension services
You will also need to complete a vocational competence evaluation log.
This log book will be evaluated throughout your programme (behaviours evaluation log) and supports your completion of the end point assessment.
When your employer and the college confirm that you have completed the required studies, you will be entered for an end - point assessment which includes:
- Vocational Competence Discussion
- Practical assessment
The apprenticeship programme consists of on-the-job and off-the-job training delivered through one day per week day- release at our Blossomfield campus, on- the- job training from your employer, independent study and work based visits from your assessor.

English and Maths at Level 1 or above
The subject units are assessed in a variety of ways including observations, professional discussions, verbal or written questions, assignments, presentations, work products, reflective accounts and witness testimonies.
End point assessment is assessed through a practical observations and professional discussions.
In order to get a place on the course you need to have secured an apprenticeship position with an employer. Apprenticeship vacancies are advertised on our website and you can follow the instructions to apply online. The vacancies provide detailed information about the employer, the job role, location, hours of work and salary/benefits.
- Entry 3 in English and Maths.
- Working a minimum of 30 hours/37 hours maximum a week
In addition you will develop valuable skills in English and Maths. The minimum required level to complete your Level 2 apprenticeship is Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths. If you have already achieved this level you will continue to work towards the next level.

On completion of the course, learners will be qualified to work within the Hairdressing industry and will progress to a senior hairdresser.
