Where will this course lead?

This qualification is for those who have an interest in the Electrical industry. It gives you the opportunity to learn some of the core skills and knowledge of the trade and provides you with an opportunity to progress onto our Level 2 & Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications.

What will I study?

During the course you will study the following:

- Health and safety & Fundamental safe working practices

- Structure of the construction industry

- Site preparation for working in the construction industry

- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings

- Communication skills

- Installation of wiring support systems and circuits

- Electrical installation wiring and termination

- Fabrication techniques for electrical installation

- Electrical science and technology

How will this course be delivered?

The course involves practical work and assignments in our workshop whilst developing your underpinning knowledge of the trade in the classroom with ongoing support from your tutor.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation City & Guilds

How will I be assessed?

Continuous assessment of your practical work and construction of a portfolio. You will also undertake Practical & Written exams.

How do I get a place on the course?

Complete the college application form and undertake an interview.

What are the entry requirements?

To apply for entry, you will need to pass a college assessment and have a minimum GCSE grade D/3 in Maths and English.

What else do I need to know?

You should have an interest in electrical installation and be able to work with your hands in a safe manner. You will be required to provide safety boots and appropriate clothing to wear in the workshop. and your study equipment. A portfolio is supplied by the College which will be completed by you, the candidate. If you haven't achieved a minimum GCSE grade C/4 in English and/or Maths, or a level 2 Functional skill in these subjects, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.

What can I do after this course?

If you successfully pass this course you can apply to progress on to progress onto Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) (City & Guilds 2365-02). Learners who have a proven high standard of attendance and demonstrated a positive attitude can be recommended for an apprenticeships.
