Actors get moving in Masterclass

4th November 2022

Stratford-upon-Avon College Acting students recently received a Masterclass in Movement from Drama school and professional theatre company Fourth Monkey.

Students from the first and second year of the course took part in sessions with Darcy Willison, an actor and movement practitioner who works for Fourth Monkey as a Participation Co-ordinator.

The session was led by Darcy who took the students through a range of acting exercises

Darcey came to the College when both institutions realised they shared similar ethos. Kerry Downing, acting lecturer commented: “Fourth Monkey’s ethos about building a thinking actor with tools is the same as ours.” Darcey continued: “We don’t just care about what they learn but how they learn. Moreover, we are not just actors, but movers and makers and this marries up with Stratford-upon-Avon College’s training.”

The students worked through a range of exercises based on movement, instinct, and communication. This was followed by a question-and-answer session where students could learn about drama school, working as a professional actor and progression after college.

The students participated in a range of movement workshops

The students found the session extremely enlightening. Student Shania Hayles commented: “I liked how the session was so interactive and how the exercises really built my confidence.” Daisy Hemming added: “I liked how it bought us together as a group and how Darcey understood our learning style.”

Thank you, Fourth Monkey, for your wonderful visit!
