Art students climb ladder towards success

14th April 2023

Art & Design students from Stratford-upon-Avon College are moving up the ladder as they successfully progress onto higher level courses.

The College offers a wide selection of programmes at different entry levels. Students who want to study on a Level 3 (A-Level equivalent) Visual Arts course but didn’t quite achieve the required grades at GCSE, can begin on a Level 2 Art & Design course which will allow them to progress upon completion.

Level 2 Art Students drawing, painting and working on designs

Max O’Mullan, 18, is completing the Level 2 Art course currently and will be moving on the Level 3 Graphic Design programme. He loves the sketching and design aspects of the course and has studied a whole host of modules including angles, viewpoints and animation. Max commented: “The College has helped me to develop so many skills as well as business practise and time management. After completing my Level 3 I hope to go straight into work!”

Erin Smith, 16, wants to be a tattoo artist so has studied on the Level 2 course so she can progress on to the Level 3 Art & Design course: “I have learnt skills on this course that will be extremely helpful in the future.” She is excited to stay on to complete her Level 3: “I really like it here, it’s quiet, the classes are good sizes and the people are so kind.”

Esree Perry-Dehaney, 16, chose to study this course as: “I like Art a lot, so when I needed to retake my Maths, this course sounded perfect!” Esree will move onto the Level 3 Digital Media Production course with plans in the future to be a Director or Producer. The Level 2 Art & Design course has been great in helping her to prepare: “We have done an animation module which is useful as I can use the skills I have learnt on my Level 3 course.”

Joe Rogers, 16, originally planned to study on the Level 3 Media course. However, after doing the Level 2 Art & Design course, he realised his passion for animation: “The animation and digital drawing elements have been really useful.” He is now going to continue on the Level 3 Graphic Design course and is pleased he studied on the Level 2 programme: “After doing this course I would definitely recommend to others to do the same.”

Lecturer, Helen Wright, commented on why the Level 2 course is a great option for students: “UAL Level 2 Art & Design provides students with an interest in art and design the opportunity to study a range of projects that enables them to experiment with a range of 2D, 3D, digital and traditional art materials and processes.

Projects studied have been developed to accommodate learners wanting to pursue Level 3 studies in art, fashion, graphics, photography and media. From my experience, students who have gone on to study Level 3 after successfully completing their Level 2 studies, gain confidence in their work and have a better understanding of what type of career they would like to purse within the creative arts.”
