Sport and Public Services students from Stratford-upon-Avon College are celebrating the opening of a brand-new state-of-the-art gym on campus.
The new gym features a variety of weight training and cardio equipment such as free weights, treadmills and indoor cycling, all in an open plan area offering plenty of light and space.
Previously the gym equipment was spread out between 3 smaller rooms in a different part of campus. Oliver Wilkins, Sports lecturer is especially happy with the new facility: “It’s great, the students can have more assistance as they are all in the same space that lecturers can observe all at once. Long term there will be showers and changing facilities installed in this block too so it will be a purpose use space which is very exciting.”
Public Services students are enjoying using the new equipment
Sport lecturer Enrique Cardenas is extremely pleased with the new space: “It has made a massive difference to our practical lessons. This equipment means the environment is much closer to what our students will find in the industry which means they are more prepared.”
Students have commented on why they have welcomed the upgrade. Sports student Isobella Doda said: “It’s great! It’s more open, brighter and generally a better space for learning and exercising.” Public Services student Lola Bradley said: “It is so much better to work in. It’s more spacious and feels more like a professional gym environment so it’s easier to focus.”
Sports students use the equipment regularly for lessons and training
The College has committed to improving facilities all over the campus and has received funding to do so. The move and upgrade of the gym means its old site can be remodelled into a new centre for Plumbing and Electrical Installation courses, to start later in 2022.
