College offers students chance to explore future careers

29th April 2024

Stratford-upon-Avon College was pleased to host its largest Careers Fair since before the pandemic recently to showcase a range of education and career opportunities to students.

The College is committed to supporting students not only during their time at college but also as they take their steps into higher education, apprenticeships, or the world of work. Students already regularly experience visits from industry experts who deliver talks and workshops, but the College was excited to bring back a Careers Fair meaning students could benefit from a wealth of opportunities and learning in one event.

The College’s Careers team organised a packed event which included information stands with representatives from a range of businesses. This included the Bear Pit Theatre Company, Go Go Makers, Howden Insurance, Royal Air Force, Warwickshire Fire Service, Sytner BMW & MINI, Border Force, Telent, Barratt Development PLC, ASK Apprenticeships, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines, Solihull College & University Centre Apprenticeships, Warwickshire Supported Employment Service, The Civil Service and Humly Education.

The event was a huge success and was packed with students from all levels and courses, plus visiting students from Stratford High School Sixth Form.

Careers Advisor, Helen Waldram-Tingling, was pleased the event was so successful: “It was a wonderful way to introduce final year students to employers currently recruiting and to help students part-way through their course to plan for their future after college. It’s also a great way for students to make connections with business for work experience. Supporting students to understand all of their progression options helps them make more informed, positive choices about their future.

We were really pleased with the turn out, there was a steady footfall of students throughout the event and employers spoke of having really valuable conversations with our students. This was our first larger scale event since Covid and the campus renovation and hopefully something that we can now grow into an annual event.”

The event was well received by students with comments such as: “It was really helpful and I learned more about the fire service and if I want to continue to that path I now know what I have to do”, “Really busy, with loads of good information that was helpful” and “It was very informative and it has given me a lot more freedom of choice when it comes to picking a career after college.”
