A Computing & Emerging Technologies student from Stratford-upon-Avon College has made a strong start in the industry by receiving not one, but two job offers before his course is even completed.
Cameron Roberts, 18 from Solihull, had begun work earlier this year for a company in Kidderminster, but has now been headhunted by a recruiter and offered his dream position at Enzen UK to start work this summer.
Cameron was always interested in computers but didn’t have access to one at home growing up. When the time came to choose a course to study, he didn’t want to study A-Levels so initially looked at an Electrical Apprenticeship. However, he realised his interest was in computers and gaming so decided to join the Computing & Emerging Technologies course at Stratford-upon-Avon College.
The course allowed him access to computers, both Macs and Windows, and he was able to balance work alongside his course so ended up being able to afford to buy his own computer.
Cameron also benefitted from the way the course was delivered. He commented: “It was great working with the tutors, they really helped, guided and encouraged me and it really boosted my interest.”
With his course drawing near to its completion, Cameron began looking for work experience opportunities and managed to land a role as an IT Engineer which he began alongside his course. He has now been offered another job with Enzen UK doing Risk Analysis in Cyber Security which is his dream field of work and will begin later in the summer.
Computing & Emerging Technologies lecturer, Alex Gibb, is proud of Cameron’s achievement: “The mix of academic and practical applications of the Level 3 BTEC Information Technology Diploma has worked well for Cameron as he, through his dedication and determination, has successfully started his career in cyber security.”
Congratulations Cameron!
