A former student from Stratford-upon-Avon College recently had the opportunity to work on Netflix’s new film Matilda the Musical.
Charlotte Bazeley, who studied Dance at the College from 2008-2010, worked as a dancer on the film adaptation of the musical, which includes hits such as When I Grow Up, Naughty, and Revolting Children, and which aired in cinemas and is now on Netflix.
Charlotte always wanted to be a performer so choosing to study at Stratford-upon-Avon College was an easy choice: “It was the best college for Dance that I could get to every day.”
She loved her time at college: “Every performance we did was a favourite! We had so many opportunities to perform; one of my favourites was performing in a Chinese version of Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company.”
Following college, Charlotte went on to Stella Mann College to study Performing Arts and now works as a performer for a range of projects including live shows, events, fashion, and adverts as well as travelling to America twice recently to set up a new show on Princess Cruises.
Her role on Matilda the Musical film came about as she originally worked on the workshops leading up to the shoot: “We rehearsed all the children’s dances so they could practise all the shots.” This meant that the routines and filming angles were prepared before actors came on set.
Following a recommendation to the choreographer, she was then asked to work on the film itself. Charlotte appeared in the opening scene and had a fantastic time: “I really enjoyed working with the choreographer Ellen and her team!”
Congratulations Charlotte! It’s great to see that when you grew up you had the chance to live your dream!
