An Early Years & Childhood Studies student from Stratford-upon-Avon College has completed a successful work placement with a local nursery and secured a permanent position in only their first year of study.
Alix Ward, 17 from Evesham, began a placement at Puddleducks Nursery in September 2021. After a successful placement, Alix continued on and has now secured a position with the company which she balances with her studies.
Alix has always wanted to work in childcare. At home, Alix has a young sibling and this developed her passion for looking after children. When it came to studying, Alix knew she wanted to come to Stratford-upon-Avon College: “I really like Stratford as a place, and it is nice to be local too.”
Alix comments on what she most enjoys about the Early Year’s & Childhood Studies course: “Sara (Greedy) my lecturer. She is an amazing tutor and helps me learn so much.”
Students on the course must undertake placements as part of their learning and experience. Alix searched locally for her placement and came across local Nursery Puddleducks: “I have a few friends who have siblings at Puddleducks Nursery and had recommended it.”
Alix adored her time on placement: “I love it there. There are so many reasons I enjoy it. There is great communication, all situations are dealt with well and there is a nice number of staff and children with everyone being friendly and welcoming.”
After completing her assigned hours, Alix wanted to stay on. She had to wait until she was 17 to be employed so until that time, she volunteered. Now she is working everyday she can and couldn’t be happier: “I feel so proud to have got a job here and 100% want to stay on here for as long as I can!”
Alix’s Early Years & Childhood Studies lecturer, Sara Greedy, commented: “Alix is the ideal student; she is conscientious and committed and it comes as no surprise that she has been offered employment. She will make a fantastic practitioner.”
Congratulations Alix for the beginning of a fantastic career!
