A former Performing Arts student from Stratford-upon-Avon College is heading to the West End in a new musical comedy.
Freddie King, who attended the College between 2014-2016, has recently been cast in ‘Titanique the Musical’.
Since leaving the College, Freddie has had a successful career, working on projects such as the ‘Light in the Piazza’ concert at Alexandra Palace, ‘Oklahoma’ with John Wilsons Orchestra, and ‘Heathers’ where he played JD.
‘Titanique the Musical’ was a lengthy audition process for Freddie, which required several rounds of self-tapes, zoom calls with creatives, singing and acting rounds and many weeks of waiting. He commented: “I thought I didn’t have it. I came home from a night out with friends and was eating left over spaghetti, I checked my emails, and I found out I got the role!”
In the role of offstage understudy, Freddie will be required to cover 5 tracks – Jack, Cal, Ruth, Background Vocalist, and the captain. He will be first cover for all these tracks and could be called to perform any of the roles at any time.
Freddie has advice for students to leave the college next summer. He shares: “Don’t think you cannot do something. Try everything, you are going to school to train. See shows, concerts, cabarets. Learn people’s names and get clued up about the industry.”
College lecturer, Phil Watson-Smith, is proud to see Freddie shine in the industry. He comments: “We are delighted to see that Freddie’s success in the industry is going from strength to strength. Freddie is an example of a student whose dedication and hard work has been pivotal to his success as a performer, and we wish him all the luck and success with this next chapter.”
