Former Stratford-upon-Avon Catering student Kristian Curtis has been named Best Commis Chef 2013 at the Bocuse d’Or in Lyon, France.

The UK team of Adam Bennett and Kristian Curtis, who lived in Alcester during his studies, were a few points off the bronze award, finishing fourth out of 24 countries that entered. The pair, both based at Simpson’s restaurant in Birmingham, also won the prize for the Best Meat Dish. They were supported by vocal Catering staff and students from Stratford-upon-Avon College.

Tony Davies, Catering Lecturer said, “It was a fantastic trip and is just one of the many chances for our students to see the best chefs in the World at work. To see a former student win the Best Commis Chef prize was unbelievable – it just goes to show the quality we produce here.”

Stratford-upon-Avon College’s Principal said, “We are so proud. Kristian and Adam had to beat teams from across Europe and to come fourth in the World is some achievement.”
