Make Up students from Stratford-upon-Avon College broadened their knowledge of prosthetics recently at ‘The Prosthetics Event’ held at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Students learnt about prosthetics for film, TV, and theatre from a series of industry professionals.
Students watched talks and demonstrations from renowned industry icons such as Ve Neill, who is a three-time Academy Award winner for make-up on the films ‘Beetlejuice,’ ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ and ‘Ed Wood.’ At the event, students were able to see Ve demonstrate an ‘Edward Scissorhands’ recreation on the main stage.
Scarlett, who studies Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up, commented: ‘My favourite thing was watching people recreate looks from famous films! Also hearing about how they got into the industry and personal approaches was interesting.”
She continued: “The event gave me some inspiration on what want to do when I leave college. The tips and tricks I learnt will also be useful for next year as that is when we delve more into prosthetics as part of the course.”
At this year’s event, there were also a selection of universities from all over the country that the students could talk to about their next steps.
Lecturer, Charlotte Gallichan, commented: “This event supports the students’ interest in prosthetics make-up, as well as their personal and professional development and career aspirations. It was beneficial to our students and provided links that are relevant to their study programme.”
