Make Up for Stage & Screen students from Stratford-upon-Avon College recently took a trip to Look Good Live; an event which showcases popular and upcoming brands from across hair, beauty, fitness and wellness.
Students travelled to the Coventry Building Society Arena where they spent the day looking at a whole range of make-up brands, viewing demonstrations by top professionals and watching live performances.
The event also hosted the National Student Make Up competition. A Make Up student from partner college Solihull College & University Centre was competing in the Tim Burton category so students were also able to show their support by watching the event.
Laynie Rollason who entered the competition took part as she believed it would be a good opportunity and a great experience. She chose to enter the Tim Burton category as she was a fan: “I used to watch his films all the time and the Mad Hatter was my favourite character!”

The students really enjoyed the trip with Moss Nutt commenting: “It was so nice to see such a wide range of examples of make-up. It also gave us the chance to expand our kits as there are loads of offers and free samples.”
Beau Hill added: “I really enjoyed the brow blocking tutorial by Ryan from Glow Up as that was something I had struggled with. Learning new techniques and talking to a range of professionals was incredibly useful!”
The students enjoyed the opportunity to add to their kits and watch a range of live demonstrations
Make Up lecturer, Charlotte Hollingworth, detailed why experiences like these are so useful to the students: “It gave them a good insight into different areas of Hair and Make Up which will all relate to what they are learning. They got to see different specialisms on multiple stages around the arena and hopefully seeing students from Solihull compete in the competition will inspire them to enter next year!
