A former Motor Vehicle student from Stratford-upon-Avon College is on the road to career success after securing a fantastic apprenticeship opportunity as a Listers Land Rover Technician.
Joshua Mann, from Solihull, gained his Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Technology at the College. He now is working as an apprentice for Listers; the country’s largest privately owned motor group.
Josh had always known he wanted to work with cars from a young age but didn’t feel confident going straight into the trade once he had left school. So, he decided to go to college: “The reviews of Stratford-upon-Avon College were great! It also seemed like a great environment to learn in.”
There were many aspects of his time at College that Josh enjoyed, but a few things stuck out for him in particular: “The tutors were excellent. It was so different to school as they became more like friends, so the relationship was better as you built a bond.” Josh also like the facilities: “It was great there was such a practical element to the course; to get your feet on the ground in an actual workshop!”
After completing his course, Josh got some part time work before starting to look for apprenticeships. Josh’s confidence and perseverance paid off as an email he sent connected him with Listers and the Head of Jaguar Land Rover. Josh was excited to gain an apprenticeship as a Listers Land Rover Technician: “It is amazing to work in the job you have studied for! It is so satisfying to secure an apprenticeship doing what you like, with an excellent company.”
Jon Taylor, one of Josh’s lecturers at the college, is very proud of Josh’s success: “Josh was a hard-working student who was committed to his studies. He studied with us for two years and was awarded the student of the year award during his first year. We are very proud of his achievements. We work hard with our learners to ensure they are ready for the world of work. Preparing them with knowledge and hand skills but also preparing them for industry expectations and standards.”
So, what are Josh’s hopes for the future? To keep going! He comments: “I want to get as many qualifications under my belt as and ultimately end up in a Master Technician role.”
Congratulations Josh on your amazing journey so far!
