Sport students from Stratford-upon-Avon College united to form a football team to take on partner college Solihull College & University Centre (SCUC) in their first friendly football foray.
The team, comprised of first and second-year sports students, travelled to their rival’s Blossomfield Campus for the game. After a tense match the Stratford students managed to score a last-minute equaliser to leave the final result as a 2-2 draw.

Sport lecturer, Enrique Cardenas, explained why the team was created: “Our team is comprised of year one and year two students, and our aim is to enrich students’ experience at Stratford-upon-Avon College and enhance the development of coaching skills. The match provided an excellent opportunity for building a bridge between the two campuses, as students have the opportunity to progress to the university level Sport programme at Solihull College’s Blossomfield Campus on completion of their course at Stratford.”
Second year student, Alex Adams, who has coached the team, recognised: “The team’s performance was good. We have been training since September and the match was a good starting point for us to build on.”
The team will remain together for the full academic year and take part in a range of friendly matches against Uniformed Protective Services teams and other colleges in the area.
