An Events Assistant apprentice from Stratford-upon-Avon College’s merger partner Solihull College & University Centre is testing her skills by delivering an event during National Apprenticeship Week for her employer, the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
Aine Brown started her apprenticeship last year having completed A-Levels at sixth form and deciding that university was not the path for her.
Since the beginning, the RSC have been very supportive in her role and have provided her with several opportunities to develop and progress. Aine is currently in the process of organising a ‘Spotlight on Apprenticeships’ event.
With the support of the apprenticeship team at the RSC and her college tutor, the event will showcase apprenticeship journeys and achievements. From creating the agenda, inviting guest speakers and organising space and refreshments, Aine is actively learning on the job and overseeing the planning of the event from start to finish.
Aine also has support from Tegan and Laura, two of the College’s other creative arts apprentices from The Birmingham Hippodrome, who will share their own fantastic experiences on the apprenticeship programme as part of the event.
Tutor Sophie Jolly comments: “This event has been a valuable opportunity for Aine to develop and strengthen her understanding of the event cycle. With the support of her team, she has gained confidence and enhanced her skills in communication, organisation, and audience engagement, laying a strong foundation for her future success.”
Part of Aine’s motivation for the event is to showcase apprenticeships from both an employer and apprentice perspective. Aine comments: “There are so many pathways you can take with an events apprenticeship, and my employer has been really supportive in my development and exploring different ways in which I can work in this sector.”
Speaking about the value of apprenticeships for both apprentices and employers, Apprenticeship Programme Manager at the RSC, Kieran Corrigan said, “It’s important that apprentices are given opportunities to showcase their abilities, and Aine has done that and more. Her commitment to her apprenticeship and her ability to put herself in new situations and deliver something as spectacular as this event is commendable. This is a perfect case study for why organisations should put their faith in apprentices. The experience has been mutually beneficial for both Aine and the RSC.”
