A Sport student from Stratford-upon-Avon College is getting good results in the ring as he works towards his dream of becoming a professional Boxer.
Kascius Marren, from Warwick, is in his second year of the Level 3 Sports Extended Diploma and alongside his studies is training to take his Boxing passion to the next level.
Growing up, Kascius had interest in team sports like football. But as time went on, he realised he wanted to focus on solo opportunities: “I wanted to control whether I lost or won. And with Boxing, there is such a thrill; the excitement you get when showing off skills and knowing how to defend yourself.”
Boxing was also an obvious choice for Kascius as the talent for it ran in the family with his Grandad, Tony Marren, being a famous Boxer in Coventry and his Great Grandad a bare-knuckle Boxer.
After four years of training, he is actively entering competitions to increase his experience. His first took place at the end of April earlier this year through Banbury Boxing Club. After a tough fight, Kascius won by unanimous decision by the judges.
His most recent competition was at the Oxford ABC Amateur Boxing Show where he fought three two-minute rounds. Kascius scored his first knockdown in the second round and received a unanimous decision win by the judges.
Kascius’ focus is now to prepare for a career in professional boxing. Kascius trains six times a week and competes at least once a month, though is looking to increase that frequency.
The course at college is helping him achieve that goal: “The weight training and coaching skills learnt at college all go towards my goal of developing as a professional athlete. I want to be a world champion and I don’t shy away from it!”
