A Sport student from Stratford-upon-Avon College is racing towards his dream career as a long-distance runner.
Alex Adams, 17 from Stratford-upon-Avon, has been running since the age of 6. With his mother being an avid runner, Alex joined her on many a fun run and charity run as a child.
Turning his interest into a career plan, Alex studies Sport at the College to support his training which takes place at least five days a week. He comments: “100% studying at college has helped me prepare further for this career.”
Alex is consistently racing in a range of events. Earlier this year, he ran for England at the SIAB Schools International Cross-Country Championships. He came back with a team gold medal in the Inter Boys’ category and finished the second course in the top half of the group.
He has been racing recently, taking part in the British Cross Challenge at Teardrop Lakes in Milton Keynes where he came 10th in the Under 17 boys’ race. This was followed by the West Midlands Cross Country league race. In the first match he was injured but still came in second place. The next race he won by 45 seconds!
Alex is continuing to train and learn, with plans to go to a university in America following college. His dream is to one day compete in the World Championships and the Olympics.
He described why he enjoys running so much: “Running for me is a lot of things. It’s the passion and dedication I must put it to get results out of it, but when it goes well it’s so rewarding. For me it’s more than a hobby as I’ve built my life around it, and the support I get from family and friends makes it worthwhile.”
