Students celebrate end of year awards

Stratford-upon-Avon College students are celebrating receiving a number of special awards as the academic year comes to a close.

This year, students were nominated by various members of staff for a range of categories including Student Voice, Achievement, Progression and Sustainability.

The work and achievements of the students this year has been remarkable with students going above and beyond.

Mai Worth, an Acting student, received an Inspiration Award for working hard across her time at college, volunteering at open events and even running workshops for prospective students, inspiring the next generation.

Vic Gwozdz, who studied Health & Social Care, was nominated for this award due to her time as Student Rep and as a Student Governor where she helped to make other students voices heard.

Tyler Tomlinson (Art & Design), Becca Turrell (Digital Media Production) and Annie Ireland (Psychology, Criminology & Law) received Student Voice Awards for their incredible commitment to inspiring positive change. Tyler, who is part of the Pride group at college set up and ran a Transgender Awareness campaign, where he also received a nomination for Activist of the Year Award from Stratford Youth Town Council Awards. Becca created a podcast for her final Media project which gave voice to important issues; discussing topics within the LGBTQ topics, with particular focus on the transgender community as well as on menstrual health and hidden disabilities. Annie excelled in her role as Stratford Officer; being a powerful advocate for the student voice on campus, helping give voice to students by introducing suggestion boxes and being instrumental in the redevelopment of the campus by being part of planning and design meetings.

The College’s Foundation Learning students were collectively awarded a Sustainability Award. Laura Bartley, Olivia Cobb, Emily Gray, Katy Swallow, Jess Bartrum, Lucy Hemming, Isabel O’Connor and Frances Behan all took part in the College’s monthly litter picks to help keep the campus clean and help towards the college’s sustainability goals.

Assistant Principal, Sandra White, is incredibly proud of the achievements of all the students: “I am so pleased for the students to receive these awards for their dedication and hard work promoting positive change not just at college, but within the wider community. I’d like to thank all the students for their effort and congratulate them on completing the academic year. Also, a huge thank you to all our incredible staff for supporting our learners so amazingly.”
