Travel & Tourism students from Stratford-upon-Avon College threw a Christmas and Cake themed fundraiser event recently to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The students planned and delivered a day of fun-filled activities including an afternoon tea, chocolate tombola, bake off competition and gingerbread decorating competition that was attended by staff and students from across the College.
All proceeds raised would be donated to Acorns Children’s Hospice who provide specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people and support for their families.
Student Millie Shafi commented on why they chose the charity: “It is a local charity to where I live so I was aware of it. Also, it is Christmas time and we felt that raising money for children and their families at this time of year was the worthiest cause.”
The students had great fun throwing the event. Lucy Craig explained: “We split into small groups and each came up with fun activities – we chose gingerbread decorating. And all proceeds go to a great cause!”

Travel & Tourism lecturer, Michelle Mills, was pleased with the success of the event: “The first year Travel students had to work really hard to create this event. They had to plan ways to raise money, choose a charity through a democratic process, organise the event and keep it flowing smoothly. The students have done an excellent job!”
The students were delighted to raise £164 for Acorn’s Children’s Hospice.
